Alabama, Texas Announce Home-And-Home, Longhorns Move Ohio State Series

Beginning in 2022, we’re being treated to an Alabama vs. Texas home-and-home.Texas will bring the Crimson Tide to Austin in 2022. That will be the first true road game in non-conference play for the Crimson Tide since 2011. That year, ‘Bama traveled to Penn State.The following year, the Longhorns head to Tuscaloosa. Depending on how Tom Herman has turned around Texas, these two games could be truly massive.From the Longhorns’ release on the Alabama vs. Texas series:Texas (898/2nd NCAA) and Alabama (891/5th NCAA) have combined to play 248 years of football and post 1,789 all-time victories. Having last met in the 2009 National Championship Game at the Rose Bowl, the Longhorns and Crimson Tide have played nine times dating back to 1902 with Texas holding a 7-1-1 series advantage. The traditional college football powers have only met three times on their home fields with the last coming in Austin in 1922. The Longhorns played at Alabama in 1902, and the Crimson Tide traveled to Austin in 1915. The bowl matchups have taken place in the 1947 Sugar Bowl, 1960 Bluebonnet Bowl, 1964 Orange Bowl, 1972 and 1982 Cotton Bowls and most recently the 2010 Rose Bowl.Texas and Ohio State last met in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in 2009. The two schools, with a combined 253 years of college football history, are tied for second on the NCAA all-time victory chart with 898 wins for a combined 1,796. They didn’t meet until 2005, but have met three times over the last 13 years, including a home-and-home series in 2005 and 2006. Texas holds a 2-1 advantage in those matchups.This news has an impact on a few other programs. Texas tossed in an announced home game against UTEP in 2020 to this release.The Longhorns have also canceled a potentially-notable game. UCF was set to come to Austin in 2023, which will no longer happen. There’s no telling what the Knights will be in five years, but obviously the team went undefeated this year.The biggest impact comes on Texas’s upcoming series against Ohio State. The two were set to have a home-and-home in 2022-23, but that has now been moved back to 2025-26 to accommodate Alabama vs. Texas.
