The existing neoclassic house from mid 19th century was relegated to the urban anonymity due to aggressive renovations after World War II.  Save this picture!© P. WünstelDespite the decadent state of the building, the clients acknowledged traces of previous qualities. The drive to bring back to life these lingering and latent qualities by complementing them with a warm and contemporary design became the concept of the project. The objective was to synthesize a united entity feeding from the old and the new rather than pursuing contrast between them Save this picture!© P. Wünstel The classic facade, symmetric along the principal axis, is divided in three levels, ground floor, main floor and mezzanine. The facade deepends the layering theme by using massive horizontal sandstone pieces. Other areas of the stone facade were carved with a fine and delicate ornamental pattern turning its natural massive appearance into a nearly textile-like lightness. In contrast with the symmetry of the main facade facing the street, the house opens up to the garden. The different elements on the facade are not linked to a strict order but rather formed a collage.Save this picture!© P. WünstelThe interior design applies a reduced and precise selection of materials combining the variety of the existing and the added elements to a harmonic and comfortable synthesis.Save this picture!SectionProject gallerySee allShow lessIn Discussion: Peter Zumthor Speaks with Michael Govan About the LACMA RedesignArticlesShould Architects Follow a Code of Ethics?Architecture News Share Projects Architects: DYNAMO Studio, Güth & Braun Architekten Area Area of this architecture project ArchDaily ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsappMailOrhttps://www.archdaily.com/385466/punktchen-dynamo-studio Clipboard “COPY” 2011 CopyAbout this officeDYNAMO StudioOfficeFollowGüth & Braun Architekten OfficeFollowProductsWoodConcrete#TagsProjectsBuilt ProjectsSelected ProjectsResidential ArchitectureHousesWoodHousesGermanyPublished on June 11, 2013Cite: “Pünktchen / Güth & Braun Architekten + DYNAMO Studio” 11 Jun 2013.
